A Brief History of the Orleans Criminal District Court: 1819

1819.    AN ACT further amending the act entitled "an act to amend the act entitled "an act to incorporate the city of New-Orleans, approved February 17th 1805, and to establish a court of criminal jurisdiction, and for other purposes."

Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Louisiana in general assembly convened, That the criminal court of the city of New-Orleans, shall henceforth have original and exclusive cognizance of, and shall hear and determine according to law, all prosecutions upon all crimes, misdemeanors and offences whatever, which have been or which shall be dommitted [sic] by any free person or persons within the limits of the first judicial district.

NN [sic] ACT to amend the several acts enacted for the punishment of the crimes and misdemeanors, committed by free persons, and for other purposes.

1819.   AN ACT to provide for the payment of the rent of houses or rooms hired  for the sittings of the several state courts in New-Orleans, and for other purposes.

Sec. 8. And be it  further enacted, That the criminal court for the first judicial district, shall be authorised to hold its sessions in the government house, from the end of the present session until the commencement of the next session.
