New Orleans residents seemed to have approved of the killing of the eleven men. The leaders of the lynch mob did not face any negative consequences for their actions. In fact, Parkerson was invited to Illinois to give a speech on the Fourth of July. Around the country, newspapers were full of praise for the mob.
Because of strained ties with Italy, the United States government had to pay reparations to the families of the victims.
Official reaction was not what one might expect. The newspapers printed tales of past mafia crimes and anti-immigrant sentiments. There were investigations of the jurors who had failed to convict the lynched Italian-Americans.
