A Brief History of the Orleans Civil District Court: 1966

1966

ACT No. 2     AN ACT
To amend and re-enact Section 621 and Sub-section H of Section 968 of Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, relative to the number of judges in the various judicial districts in the state, by creating an additional office of district judge for the Nineteenth, First and Fifteenth Judicial Districts, respectively, and the divisions over which said judges shall preside, and to provide for the qualifications, election, term of office and compensation and expenses with respect thereto, and payment of salary of the court reporter for the Fifteenth Judicial District, and to amend said Title 13 to add thereto a new Section, to be designated as Section 1149 of Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, to provide for an additional judge for the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans and the division over which said judge shall preside, and to provide for the qualifications, election, term of office and compensation and expenses with respect thereto.

ACT No. 135     AN ACT
To amend and re-enact Subsection A of Section 691 of Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, relative to the salaries of certain judges, to provide that the total annual salary, from all sources, of district judges, judges of the civil and criminal district court of the parish of Orleans, judges of the juvenile courts of Caddo and Orleans parishes and the judge of the Family Court of East Baton Rouge Parish shall not be less than fifteen thousand dollars per annum nor shall such total salary exceed that fixed by law for the judges of the Courts of Appeal.

ACT No. 245     AN ACT
To amend and re-enact Section 1373.1 of Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, relative to the salary paid to minute clerks and court reporters, to provide for an increase therein.

ACT No. 327   AN ACT
To amend and re-enact Section 3105 of Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, to fix the compensation of jurors serving as jurors in the trial of civil cases in the Civil District Court for the parish of Orleans; to tax such jurors' compensation as costs and providing for the depositing of such sum and/or bond as may be fixed by the judge or judges of the Civil District Court as adequate compensation for such jurors' service with the Clerk of the Civil District Court by the litigant requesting a trial by jury at the time of filing and making of such request; and providing for the trial of such litigation by the court upon failure of such litigant to deposit said jurors' compensation; to provide for the return of such jurors' compensation, after the same has been so deposited, when any suit in which said jurors' compensation was advanced has not been tried by a jury for any reason; to provide that such deposit of such jurors' compensation and bond may be waived by the judge presiding over the division of the Civil District Court in which the litigation is to be tried when a litigant is unable so to do because of financial inability to do so, and to provide that said judge may, in his discretion, require that such jurors' compensation to* be paid in whole or in part prior to the trial of such litigation.    *As it appears in the enrolled bill.

ACT No. 463        AN ACT
To amend and re-enact Subsection "J" of Section 1171 of Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950 and to amend said Section 1171 of Title 13 by adding thereto two new subsections to be designated as Subsections "K" and "L" thereof, relative to the Commissioner of the Civil District Court of the Parish of Orleans, to provide for the salary of the Commissioner; to provide that the Commissioner shall use the title of Judge ad hoc; and to provide that he shall rule on all matters of evidence.
