Family Preservation Courts are a hybrid type of Drug Court that take Department of Children & Children Services (DCFS) involved families who show evidence of substance use disorder as the causal factor of the DCFS Case. They are similar to Drug Courts in terms of drug testing and treatment, and referral to care as needed. The courts work closely with DCFS to provide the families all the services necessary while protecting the children. They were created by judges in local jurisdictions who had drug court experience working with DCFS to provide the additional supports necessary to get the parents into treatment.
