Louisiana Criminal Code of 1942: How it was enacted

Input from many stakeholders

In 1940, the legislature instructed the Louisiana State Law Institute to prepare a draft or projet of the substantive criminal law of Louisiana. In 1942 a draft was reviewed by the members of the Institute. Meetings to discuss the draft were held by both the Louisiana State Bar Association and the Louisiana Association of District Attorneys. Numerous amendments were proposed by both Senators and Representatives. After months of debate by all interested groups, the act was finally adopted on July 6, 1942.
