Parade Laws: Home

Carnival Time

Mardi Gras, St. Patrick's Day, Halloween, the Fourth of July. In Louisiana, these celebrations all involve parades. Most onlookers think about getting a good spot to watch and catch beads, but may not consider all of the legal ramifications of simply attending a parade, let alone putting on a parade.

The Louisiana State Legislature enacted many statutes concerning parades in general, and Mardi Gras parades in particular. Parishes and cities have also adopted ordinances for their own parades. Municipalities which are know for very large parades may have adopted an extensive list of ordinances, whereas a small city may only have a few ordinances about parades. A few examples are given in this libguide. You may check for your own parish or town at Municode.com.
