A Brief History of the Orleans Criminal District Court: 1975

ACT No. 63    AN ACT
To amend Titles 13, 33, and 44 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950 by adding thereto, as seven new Sections to be designated as R.S. 33:1501.1, R.S. 33:1519.1, R.S 33:1621.1, R.S. 44:201.1, R.S. 44:231.1, R.S. 13:1211.1, and R.S. 13:1371.2, the provisions of Article VII, Section 89 of the Louisiana Constitution of 1921, which Article XIV, Section 16 of the Louisiana Constitution of 1974 continues as a statute, relative to parochial officials in Orleans Parish.

ACT No. 143       AN ACT
To amend Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950 by adding thereto, as three new Sections to be designated R.S. 13:1335, R.S. 13:1371.2, R.S. 13:1383, to amend and, as amended, to arrange in proper statutory form and incorporate therein the provisions of Article VII, Section 82 of the Louisiana Constitution of 1921, which Article XIV, Section 16 of the Louisiana Constitution of 1974 continues as a statute; to amend and reenact Section 1343 of said Title 13; and to repeal Sections 1338, 1339, 1340, 1344, and 1345; all relative to the Criminal District Court for the Parish of Orleans, its sections, building, appointment of deputy clerks, and allotment of cases.

ACT No. 144    AN ACT
To amend Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950 by adding thereto, as two new Sections to be designated R.S. 13:1336 and R.S. 13:1337, to amend and, as amended, to arrange in proper statutory form and incorporate therein the provisions of Article VII, Section 83 of the Louisiana Constitution of 1921, which Article XIV, Section 16 of the Louisiana Constitution of 1974 continues as a statute, to provide for the jurisdiction and powers of the Criminal District Court for the Parish of Orleans and its appellate and supervisory jurisdiction.

ACT No. 178    AN ACT
To amend and reenact Subsections B and D of Section 1346 of Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950 relative to the magistrate section of the Criminal District Court for the Parish of Orleans to provide that such magistrate may hear preliminary motions, accept pleas in misdemeanor cases, hear and render judgments in other matters, including misdemeanor cases, preliminary to the trial on the merits, conduct trials of misdemeanor cases, upon approval of the judges of the criminal district court sitting en banc, and sign and issue search and arrest warrants upon probable cause being shown in accordance with law and to provide for related matters.

ACT No. 233    AN ACT
To amend and reenact Subsection A of Section 3105 of Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950 and to amend and reenact Section 304 of Title 15 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, to provide with respect to the compensation of jurors in the parish of Orleans in civil cases by providing for the deposit of jury costs in the registry of the court, and to an increase in the compensation payable to jurors in the parish of Orleans in criminal cases, to provide alternative sources of funds to implement the increase.

ACT No. 594    AN ACT
To amend Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950 by amending and reenacting Section 1347 thereof, to provide for the approval, affirmation, confirmation, validation, ratification and continuation of the three offices of commissioner of the Criminal District Court for the Parish of Orleans created in R.S. 13:1347, Act No. 548, of the 1974 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature, and to provide for the qualifications, powers, duties, functions, salaries, expenses and emoluments of office, appointment, terms and removal therefrom in the office of commissioner, and to provide for related matters.

ACT No. 743   AN ACT
To amend Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950 by amending and reenacting Sections 102, 311, 691, 694, 695, 699, 1564, 1566, Subsection C of Section 1596, and by repealing Sections 692, 1141, 1141.1, 1142, 1341, 1341.1 and Subsection (F) of Section 1377 thereof, all relative to judges and judicial salaries; to increase the salary of the justices of the supreme court; to increase the salary of each judge of the courts of appeal; to increase the annual salary payable by the state to district and certain other judges and magistrates, and to provide with respect thereto; to provide with respect to the salary and qualifications of the judge of the juvenile court for Caddo Parish; to provide with respect to payment of expenses to district judges; and otherwise to provide with respect thereto.
