Legal Resources for the Public on the COVID-19/Coronavirus Pandemic

In this guide, the Law Library of Louisiana has compiled legal information resources related to the COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic for use by the public.

LouisianaLawHelp.org has a new page dedicated to information related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

You can find information about the pandemic from the governor here.

If you are low-income and need legal representation related to a COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic issue, Acadiana Legal Service Corporation and Southeast Louisiana Legal Services provide free legal assistance to those that qualify. Please do not visit legal service providers in person during this time. Due to the virus, all organizations are encouraging people to contact them over the telephone, or by applying for services online.

If you are looking for general legal resources (not specifically about the pandemic) for self-represented litigants and people in court without an attorney, including referrals to free and low-cost legal representation, please check out the Law Library's online guide.

Due to the library's closure to the public during the COVID19 pandemic, Lexis-Nexis, Thomson Reuters/Westlaw, and FastCase are offering FREE ACCESS to the library's Lexis Advance, Lexis Digital Library, Westlaw Edge, and FastCase subscriptions for our public patrons.

Click here to create your FREE temporary user ID for Lexis Advance. (ID generated within one (1) business day). If you need help creating the ID, view instructions here.  The ID will work for 30 days. This ID allows you to conduct research on cases and codes only.  If your research requires secondary materials currently part of our LexisNexis subscription for library terminals, please contact library@lasc.org or 504-310-2400 for further assistance.

Click here and enter your email address for your FREE temporary access to Westlaw Edge. Your access will be for 20 hours over 14 days. The email address you use to sign up cannot have been used for free trials in the past. You must select "Government - State or Local" in the "Organization Type" field. If you need further help, view instructions here.

Click here and enter login "lalibrary" and password "fastcase" (no quotation marks) to access FREE FastCase. The Law Library of Louisiana has worked with Fastcase to provide access to legal research for members of the public. Traditionally, this access would be available within terminal access inside of the library. While our community faces the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, access will be provided in a remote environment.

For access to the Lexis Digital Library, contact the library at library@lasc.org to have an account created for you.

The Law Library hopes you are staying safe and if you need further assistance, don't hesitate to call us at 504-310-2400 or email us at library@lasc.org. Though we are not physically in the library, we are still answering reference questions via phone and email quickly!
