From creation to the present

old District Courts

The First District Court was originally located in the Presbytere. It had jurisdiction over Orleans, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, St. Charles, and St. John the Baptist Parishes.

1841:  a District Court was in the Merchant's Exchange

1842:  it was back in Presbytere 

1865:  First District Court in the Cabildo, other District Courts in the Presbytere

1874:  First District Court at 717 Orleans, between Royal and Bourbon. Second (probate), Third (appellate), Fourth, Fifth, And Sixth District Courts in the Presbytere. The Second and Third District Courts are on the corner of Chartres and St. Ann. The Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth District Courts are on the corner of St. Anthony Place (Orleans Alley) and Chartres.

March 21, 1879:  First District Court at Girardey property

The Constitution of 1879 effected changes in the courts beginning in April, 1880.

The Third District Court (appellate) is now the Court of Appeal, and is located in the Presbytere. The Civil District Court is in the Presbytere.
