The Kemper bothers, Reuben, Nathan, and Samuel, settled in West Florida after 1800. They were expelled from the province by Spanish authorities. They organized a force in the Mississippi territory, and returned in 1804. The declared West Florida independent, and attempted to capture Baton Rouge. They failed to gain local support or to capture Baton Rouge. The brothers didn't realize the strength of the pro-Spanish, pro-French, and pro-British factions, versus the pro-American faction.
West Florida remained Spanish.
