Act by Legislative Council

Chap. XXV.

AN ACT For dividing the territory of Orleans into Counties, and establishing courts of inferior jurisdiction therein.

April 10, 1805

The Act divided the territory into 12 counties: Orleans, German Coast, Acadia, La Fourche, Iberville, Pointe-Coupee, Atacapas, Opelousas, Nachitoches, Rapides, Ouachita, and Concordia. Some of the new counties were made up of existing ecclesiastical parishes. Some borders were left to the superior court to determine.

As the years passed, Claiborne's counties slowly disappeared as new parishes were created from their territory.
