A Brief History of the Louisiana Courts of Appeal: 1898

1898

The delegates to the 1898 Constitutional Convention sought to undo the appellate system created by the prior constitution, as the delegates found it cumbersome, expensive, and inadequate. Their changes in the 1898 Constitution ultimately proved unworkable, and were upended by subsequent revisions.

Article 101 gave the courts of appeal authority to certify questions to the Supreme Court. Most court of appeal judges were replaced by district judges.
