Louisiana Court of Appeal, Fifth Circuit

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal was created by Act. No. 3 of the 1981 Regular Session. The court moved into temporary quarters on the fourth floor of the Gretna Courthouse Annex on May 1, 1982. Two days later, the entire nine judge panel was sworn in on May 3, 1982.

The court was reduced to eight judges on January 1, 1983 as per statute.

The Hon. Susan Chehardy was sworn in as Chief Judge in January 2013.
