1984 ACT No. 446

AN ACT To enact R. S. 17:236.1, relative to participation in home study programs in lieu of attending public or private day schools, to provide for approval of home study programs and for procedures therefor, and otherwise to provide with respect thereto.

AN ACT To enact R.S. 17:236.1, relative to the admission of home study program participants to public schools, to require the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to adopt policies, rules, and regulations providing for the screening and evaluation of such students, including examinations to determine the grade level at which such students should be admitted; to require the Department of Education to develop, select, validate, and/or provide for the administration of such examinations; to require that such examinations measure the skills of students using the criteria required for testing under the shared educational accountability and competency-based education programs; to require home study program participants to fulfill all such screening and evaluation requirements as a prerequisite for admission; to require city and parish school boards to adopt policies sufficient to implement such screening and evaluation of students; to require such boards to use the results of screening, evaluations, and examinations in determining the grade level at which such students shall be admitted, and otherwise to provide with respect thereto.

AN ACT To amend and reenact R.S. 17:222, relative to the age of school entrance, to increase the age over a period of years, to provide relative to certain options available to each city or parish school board, and otherwise to provide with respect thereto.
