At the First Session of the Sixth Legislature of the State of Louisiana

AN ACT relative to applicants for a licence [sic] to practice law.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Louisiana, in General Assembly convened ; That from and after the passage of this act, it shall be necessary for applicants for admission to the bar, to produce a certificate from the parish judge of the parish in which they reside, or the district judge of said district, as is required by law, to the judges of the supreme court, who are authorized and required, upon such certificate, to examine such applicant ; and if after examination they are of opinion that he is duly qualified, they are authorized and required, to grant to the person so applying, a licence [sic] to practice law in the different courts of this state.

SECT. 2. And be it further enacted, That whenever a person, intending to practice law in this state has been already licenced [sic] in the superior courts of any of the other states, he may, upon producing his licence  [sic] to any of the judges of the supreme court of this state, together with evidence of a good moral character, be at anytime examined by said judge touching his fitness to practise [sic] in the courts of this state, And if found qualified, be licensed accordingly ; provided that any person, who shall have obtained a certificate of good moral character, as. prescribed by the first section of this act, shall have a right to present himself for examination and admission before the supreme court, in case such person shall produce to the court the recommendation of three practising  [sic] lawyers of this state, declaring such person qualified to undergo all examination.

 SECT. 3. And be it further enacted, That all laws and parts of laws contrary to the provisions of the above sections be and the
same are hereby repealed.
