Although the Mechanic's Institute served as the State House, the building was not large enough for all state offices. This led to conflict over space allocation.

Preventing the passage of vehicles in front of the State House during the sittings of the General Assembly.

No. 7.]              AN ACT
To provide for paying for the lease of the Louisiana Bank buildings to the first April, eighteen hundred and sixty-nine, the expenses of fitting up said buildings, removing the furniture and library, etc., and the expenses of acquiring the lease.

For rent of buildings used as a State House, corner of Royal and Conti streets, from first of April, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine, to thirty-first of December, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine, six thousand dollars, ($6000).

No. 139.] AN ACT Making Appropriations for the General Expenses of the State for the year ending the thirty-first day of December, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.

For rent of buildings used as a State House, corner of Royal and Conti streets, from first of April, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine, to thirty-first of December, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine, six thousand dollars, ($6000).
For rent of buildings occupied by the Auditor, Treasurer, etc., corner Royal and Conti streets, to thirty-first of December, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine, and for arrearages and repairs to said buildings, seven thousand and eighty-nine dollars and ninety-one cents, ($7089 91
