It may sound unbelievable, but people using wheelchairs still face daily barriers. People using wheelchairs have been stopped from eating at a restaurant, staying at a hotel, receiving care at a medical facility, entering government buildings that are open to the public, and even voting in elections. The U.S. Department of Justice has commenced suits against private businesses, police departments, and cities over ADA violations for both practices and physical barriers.
