A Brief History of the Louisiana Juvenile Courts: 1958

Act 177 gave the Juvenile Court jurisdiction over children's traffic proceedings. This became new Section 1580.1.

Act 400 provided for the creation and election of an additional judge of the Juvenile Court for the Parish of Orleans to be known as the judge of Section "C" thereof; provided for the duties, powers, jurisdiction, qualifications, term of office and salary of such additional judge; provided for the appointment of such additional Judge by the Governor to serve through December 31, 1960 or until his successor was elected and qualified; provided for the appointment of a crier and stenographer by such judge and prescribed their duties and compensation; provided a saving clause and repealed all laws or parts of laws in conflict or inconsistent herewith. This became new Sections 1593 through 1595.

Act 10 of the Extra Session served to create a separate juvenile court for the Parish of Jefferson; to fix the qualifications, term, and salary of the judge; to fix the jurisdiction of the said court; to provide for a clerk thereof; to provide for the payment of expenses of said court, and to provide for the election of the judge of said court. This became new Sections 1596 through 1599.
