A Brief History of the Orleans Criminal District Court: 1946

ACT No. 94.       AN ACT
To amend and re-enact Section 10 of Act No. 114 of the General Assembly of the State of Louisiana, Extra Session of 1921, as amended by Act No. 333 of 1926 of the General Assembly of the State of Louisiana, entitled "An Act to organize the Criminal District Court for the Parish of Orleans as established by Article VII, Sections 82, 83, 84, 85 and 86 of the Constitution of the State; to create a Board of Jury Commissioners for the Parish of Orleans; providing for the appointment of the same and the filling of vacancies therein; fixing the number of the Board; defining its duties, powers, and compensation, providing for the manner of drawing, selecting and empaneling [sic] grand, petit and tales jurors for the Parish of Orleans; providing for the division of the Criminal District Court for the Parish of Orleans into Sections ; providing for an annual vacation for each of the judges of said Court; providing for a presiding Judge of said Court; providing for the jury terms for each section of said court; providing for the appointment of official stenographers and minute clerks for said Court, and fixing their salaries; and that from and after the going into effect of this Act, Acts No. 98 of 1880, No. 170 of 1894, No. 132 of 1898, No. 64 of 1912, and No. 333 of 1926, and all laws and parts of laws in conflict herewith shall stand repealed, provided that the Grand Jury empaneled and sworn prior to the date at which this Act shall go into effect shall continue to serve until their successors shall have been empaneled and sworn under the provisions of this Act, and that the petit jurors drawn for service for the month of October, 1921, shall be empaneled and sworn under the provisions of Act No. 98 of 1880, and of the several acts amendatory thereof; provided that the adoption of this Act shall not be taken or construed as vacating the office of the present Jury Commissioners of the Parish of Orleans, and provided further that all subsequent appointments of Jury Commissioners shall be made under this Act."

ACT No. 305.    AN ACT
To amend and re-enact Article 54 of the Louisiana Criminal Code (Act 43 of 1942), as amended by Act 111 of 1944, and to repeal all laws or parts of laws in conflict herewith.
