A Brief History of the Orleans Criminal District Court: 1972

ACT No. 41    AN ACT
To create a central jury pool for the Criminal District Court for the Parish of Orleans; to provide for the administration and operation of said central jury pool by the jury commission of said parish; to authorize the criminal district court to determine the number of jurors to serve in any given month on the central jury pool, the jury days for that month and all other matters relative to the operating procedures of the central jury pool; to provide that the provisions of this Act shall be cumulative of and in addition to the method of selecting jury panels as now provided by law, except insofar as these provisions conflict with this Act and to provide with respect to matters related thereto.

ACT No. 184    AN ACT
To amend and reenact Section 1381 of Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, to provide with respect to the charges of the clerk of the criminal district court of the parish of Orleans.

ACT No. 185    AN ACT
To amend and reenact Section 1372 of Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, relative to the deputy clerks of the criminal district court of Orleans Parish, to increase the salaries of said clerks.

ACT No. 236    AN ACT
To amend Subpart A of Part III of Chapter 5 of Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950 by adding thereto a new section to be designated as R.S. 13:1346, relative to the Criminal District Court for the Parish of Orleans; to establish the Magistrate Section of said court; to provide for an additional judge of the said court and the title of the judge of said court; to provide with respect to the election, salary, powers, duties, jurisdiction, rights and prerogatives and qualifications of said judge; and to provide otherwise with respect to said judge and to said court, all in accordance with Section 87 of Article VII of the Constitution of Louisiana authorizing the legislature, by a vote of two-thirds of the members elected to each house, to change, alter or repeal any or all provisions of the constitution covering the Criminal District Court for the Parish of Orleans.

ACT No. 498       AN ACT
To amend and reenact Subsections A, B, C and D of Section 40 of Title 44 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, and to amend Section 40 of Title 44, by adding thereto a new subsection, to be designated as Subsection E thereof; to provide with respect to the preservation and retention of public records and more particularly to authorize the clerks of court and ex officio records and registers of conveyances and recorders of mortgages including the clerk of the criminal district court in the parish of Orleans to purchase retrieval systems to be used with the microphotographic process; to authorize the microfilming of criminal records and retrieval thereof; to authorize the purchase of necessary retrieval equipment; to provide for the microfilming of all original criminal records of a certain age; to authorize the destruction of original criminal records of a certain age which have been copied and retained by use of the microphotographic process, and otherwise to provide with respect thereto.

ACT No. 638    AN ACT
To amend and reenact Paragraph (3) of Subsection B of Section 1373 of Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, to amend Section 1381 of said Title 13 by adding thereto a new Paragraph, to be designated as Paragraph (25) thereof, and to amend Subpart C of Part III of Chapter 5 of said Title 13 by adding thereto a new section, to be designated as Section 1381.1 thereof, all relative to court reporters of the criminal district court for the parish of Orleans, to provide with respect to fees for the preparation of criminal transcripts, to establish a fund for the payment of fees in indigent cases and otherwise to provide with respect thereto.
