A Brief History of the Orleans Criminal District Court: 1968

1968

ACT No. 221     AN ACT
Providing for two additional Judges of the Criminal District Court for the Parish of Orleans; providing for the payment of the salaries of the said judges; providing for their powers, duties, jurisdiction and qualifications; providing that the first Judges to preside over the two additional sections on* said Court shall be appointed by the Governor to serve until December 31, 1970; providing for the terms of office and election of their successors; providing for the appointment of a stenographer and minute clerk for each of the said two courts and for their compensation; provinding* that the Criminal Sheriff for the Parish of Orleans shall assign a Deputy Sheriff to act as the Crier for the said additional sections of said Court and the necessary number of Deputy Sheriffs to act as Court Attaches; and providing for the effective date hereof, by amending and reenacting Chapter 5 of Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950 by adding thereto Section 1345.*               *As it appears in the enrolled bill.

ACT No. 541   AN ACT
To amend and re-enact Section 304 of Title 15 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, relative to the expenses incurred in criminal proceedings to be paid by the different parishes and in the city of New Orleans, to authorize the city of New Orleans to pay jurors not less than ten dollars per day of service as jurors in any criminal case.

ACT No. 567     AN ACT
To amend and re-enact Section 1373.1 of Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, relative to the Criminal District Court of Orleans Parish, to increase the annual salaries payable by the state to the minute clerks and court reporters of said court.

ACT No. 658  AN ACT
To amend and re-enact Section 1377 of Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, relative to collection of fees by clerks of the Criminal District Court for the Parish of Orleans, to provide for the assessment, collection and disposition of court costs of defendants who plead guilty or who are convicted of offenses by the Criminal District Court for the Parish of Orleans.

Proposing an amendment to Section 89 of Article VII of the Constitution of Louisiana relative to parish officers and their election in Orleans Parish.
